What is the best way to wear a fanny pack?

I have a fanny pack that I got for xmas. It's a pink charlie unicorn fanny pack, and it's cute, but i have not used it yet. I'm going out with some friends tonight and I will be wearing my shorts that have no pockets, I do not own any other purses or bags besides my back pack which I kind of think would be too large for the few items I need to carry, just my phone, money, keys, and pack of dutchies! so what would be the cutest way to wear a fanny pack, don't they go around your waist?
